Beginners welcome

It’s normal to be nervous about trying something for the first time, so why would attending a yoga class for the first time be any different?

Below I have tried to answer all the general questions that people have before they attend a yoga class, but if I have missed anything out just send me a message using the contact form.

What do I wear to a yoga class?

Wear loose fitting clothes that you can easily move in such a leggings and cotton tops.

We work in bare feet, but you will need socks for relaxation to keep your toes warm. Some students like to work in non-slip yoga socks like toe-sox.

What equipment do I need?

You will need your own non-slip yoga mat at least 4mm thick. I am happy to recommend places to buy these, and I also sell Eco Yoga Mats for just £15. We also use blocks, yoga belts in class occassionally and over time you may want to build up your ‘kit’, but there is no need to do this on day one.  Click here to browse equipment available from me

What do you do in class?

  • We start with a short lying down relaxation
  • Take part in floor, seated and standing yoga postures (called asanas)
  • Learn a breathing and/or concentration practise
  • A guided relaxation lying down

Classes are relaxed as well as relaxing. There is the opportunity to ask questions about what we are doing and the mood is kept lighthearted and informal.

What happens if I fall asleep?

Occassionally people do nod off in class during our final relaxation, but usually they come around when they start to sense other people moving.  No one else usually notices.
